This past April, our faculty and students traveled to Philadelphia for the 2015 SIOP conference. Between faculty, alumni, and current students, with a total of 15 presentations, including posters, symposiums and an IGNITE session, Louisiana Tech was well represented. During our time at SIOP, we attended a variety of sessions, networked with other students and professionals from all over the world, and co-hosted an incredible party with Minnesota State University, Mankato. All-in-all, it was a great experience for everyone who attended.
Third-year student Bharati Belwalker presented her research on the measurement of proactive personality. When asked about her experience, she noted, “As a student researcher, it was rewarding to see fellow students and other I-O folks coming up to my poster to know more about the research and offer feedback. This also served as a great networking opportunity. SIOP is a great place to network, and you never know what big names you’ll encounter!
While the annual SIOP conference offers many opportunities to meet new people, it’s also a place to reunite and reminisce with old friends and colleagues. SIOP is a great place for Louisiana Tech students to connect with graduates from the program and learn about their work and research. Victoria Smoak, a recent graduate of the Tech I-O program, shared her thoughts on what it’s like to see Tech’s faculty and students at the conference each year: “It's always a pleasure to catch up with Tilman! I am genuinely happy to hear of the success of others who have started their post-grad careers… It's exciting to see the future of the program. Our new students are high caliber, and I look forward to (hopefully) recruiting them to work with me in the future!”
Towards the end of the conference, students took some time to get to know the city. From tasting an authentic Philly Cheesesteak, to visiting the Liberty Bell, to posing with the Rocky statue, our students definitely made the most of their time in Philadelphia. We’re really looking forward to SIOP 2016 in Anaheim, CA next year!
